Their relationship may have begun on reality television, but their love for each other is the real deal. Jules and Cam were the golden couple of the latest season of Australia’s ‘Married At First Sight’, with the experiment ending with their engagement. Recently, the couple celebrated with friends and family with a truly incredible engagement party. We chatted to the couple to find out all of the details about the party, as well as life and love after the show!
A Moment To Remember…
What Was Your First Impression Of Each Other?
Jules: ‘He’s short! But as soon as our eyes met, I knew he was kind. When I was listening to his vows, I just knew we were cut from the same cloth. I hung on every word and I believed everything he said. It was all I could have wanted”
Cam: “My heart immediately settled after it had been racing. After all, I was about to marry a complete stranger! When I saw her warm smile and kind, gorgeous green eyes and we introduced ourselves, I felt an instant calmness. It was like it was just her and I together and nothing and nobody else was around. It was such a surreal and beautiful moment that I know I will remember forever”
Love At First Sight…
When did you know it was love?
Jules: “On the wedding night, we were exhausted but still stayed up talking until 2am. I felt like this could really be something. By the end of the honeymoon, I was completely smitten! The love just kept growing every day. We said we loved each other about a month in.”
Cam: “You can have an amazing connection (which we had) but for me, visualisation of the long term future is very important. As we sat at the airport waiting for a flight to the Gold Coast, we watched little kids running around and talked about having kids. We were on the same page and it was then and there that I realised that Jules will be an amazing mother. That’s all I needed to realise my true feelings. It was a such a lovely moment.”
Down On One Knee…
Tell Us About The Proposal!
Jules: “It was so stunning in the Blue Mountains but so freezing! We hadn’t spoken or seen each other for a week so I was a little nervous. When Cam got on one knee, I wasn’t sure if he was asking me to stay married to him or to marry him! Of course I said yes! I was hoping he was going to propose but I didn’t know if it would happen. I had to give the ring back and I couldn’t tell anyone which was incredibly hard. When the final episode aired, Cam surprised me by doing it again and putting the ring back on my finger. It was such a personal and romantic moment”
Cam: “After spending 24/7 together for 3 months, it was nice to have that week apart and be able to miss each other. That really enhanced my feelings and made me realise that I wanted to commit to Jules. I thought proposing when I saw her again would be an amazing opportunity. When I saw her looking so beautiful and elegant with her bright sparkling eyes and smile, it made the feeling more intense. Right then and there, I knew I was going to propose. I always knew we were going to continue our relationship but I wasn’t completely sure what I was going to do at the time. It was a slight surprise but also so magical”
The Perfect Ring For The Perfect Girl…
Tell us about the engagement ring! How did you go about picking it?
Cam: “I had a few options and thoughts in my head about the ring along the way. I envisioned Jules’ hand with the most perfect ring on it and just went with instinct. I think I chose the right one, she said yes to it!”
The Engagement Party…
Tell us the details about your beautiful engagement party.
Cam: “We invited everyone that has had even the smallest of significance in our life as individuals and also as a couple. We couldn’t have been there and put ourselves through this journey without them and we wanted to share that. We wanted to thank them for their support and love and indulge in a huge party with them”
Jules: “It was at the Acre Eatery in Camperdown Commons. It has beautifully rustic decor that we combined with glamour using the chandeliers and stunning flowers. It was so beautiful. Sass Events really brought my mood board to life. It was held on Easter Sunday, with a small gathering of 220! Our wedding won’t be as big. This was more of one big celebration with everyone we have met from the beginning of our journey. We had all of our friends, family and lots of kids dancing around. It was such an amazing atmosphere. We have Moet on arrival, then grazing tables and a spit roast lamb. After that, 3 cakes for dessert. The food was amazing! In the later hours, we had trays filled with espresso martinis and aperol spritz. We also had 2 acoustic performers, both while playing the guitar. Later, 2 DJ’s and Amy Chase. Then a trumpet player. The whole place was singing and dancing the whole night!”
The Crew…
Did you have any fellow ‘Married at First Sight’ contestants there?
Jules: “We had Heidi, Mel, Bronson and his girlfriend, Cyrell and her boyfriend, Mick and his girlfriend, Billie and Lizzy. Others were invited but couldn’t make it”
Let Me Entertain You…
What was your favourite moment of the night?
Jules: “The choreographed dance, even though I nearly fell over! We wanted to make the music and dancing a big part of the party. We were practicing every night in the lounge the week before! It wasn’t perfect but our enthusiasm and fun attitude made up for all our mistakes. Watch this space for the wedding! I just love dancing with Cam”
Cam: “The dance was great fun. It wasn’t meant to be a feature, just a bit of fun, but the response from everyone was really special. It continued this amazing and loving energy that the night had from start to finish”
The Love Story Continues…
Do you have any wedding plans yet? What are you most excited about?
Jules: “Yep. The location is booked! I am so looking forward to seeing Cam’s face when I walk down the aisle”
Cam: “Small details are in motion which is great. I’m looking forward to recreating our love story and doing it all over again with loved ones. Also the chance for a proper first dance with music and to choose our own destination for the honeymoon!”
The Inspiration…
Will your wedding take any inspiration from your wedding on the show?
Jules: “Our wedding on the show was stunning. The cream carpet aisle, the white rose petals, the chandeliers, I loved it! It was so good but odd being filmed!”
Cam: “Outdoor weddings are just divine and certainly my preference. Would happily do something similar again!”
Married At First Sight…
Has the experience of being on the show altered your relationship in any way?
Jules: “It’s making us stronger. So much media attention is strange and you do get judged. It’s a lot to handle at times. We actually know each other very well and communicate how we feel well. Spending every waking minute together over 3 months did that. We know each other and have each other’s back”
Cam: “We deal with completely different everyday scenarios now that aren’t part of relationships we have had in the past. We have our recipes that we have learned along the way that have strengthened us as a couple. Looking after each other comes first and foremost”
The One…
Did you think you would find ‘the one’ on the show?
Jules: “I protected myself by not thinking that far ahead. In the back of my mind, I guess I hoped. That’s why I did it! Never in my wildest dreams did I predict I would meet the most beautiful, kindest, funniest man. I’m truly lucky. I’m glad I waited and held out for him.”
Cam: “No. I certainly thought it could. I was open to it and put it out into the universe. If I had been told by the experts and there was a fair bit of testing done, then why couldn’t I find and be matched with my perfect person.”
