MM Photos was unintrusive, personable and loved by all. They made our day special and have provided us with truly amazing photos so that we can relive our day forever. Michael of MM Photos is a very special & immensely talented individual behind the lense. I cannot recommend MM Photos highly enough. They have captured the essence of the day. So much fun shared with some very special people. Our photos are unique and we simply LOVE them.
The Meeting…
I am an English girl who has been living in Sydney for over ten years now, Enrique is from El Salvador but has been living in Australia for 26 years. He is a music producer and I am a marketer for a pharmaceutical company. Music was what brought us together and continues to be a passion that we have a deep connection through – hence our music themed wedding.
We met in October 2010 through a mutual friend (who was also a DJ) she was having a birthday party and I turned up. It turned out that Enrique was her new roommate. After the party he ‘stalked me on Facebook’ as I wouldn’t give my phone number out. I then went to Belgium for work, and he continued to FB message me every time I was online until I came back and I finally agreed to a ‘proper’ date – to a 2nd party at the Chinese Laundry! He was far more handsome than I had remembered and extremely cheeky. Between his good looks, his crazy sense of humour and his charming personality, I fell in love.
Love…
I knew it was love when Enrique bought us a dog, Jaxx, and he destroyed our first home. Then our lives changed forever when our daughter Alexa was born on 30/11/12.
The Proposal…
There were no expectations on 30 September 2012. I was heavily pregnant with our first child and it was a few days before my birthday. Enrique had taken me to my favourite restaurant – tapas at Mojos in Bondi. As we were leaving Enrique wanted to go to the beach. It was the last thing that I wanted to do – pregnant, tired, cold and longing to go home to bed. But Enrique was persistent. It was there that he popped the big question. I had such tears of happiness that Enrique had to ask me a second time to make sure I had said yes.
Wedding Style…
I wanted a personalised wedding that said Karen & Enrique – vintage, eloquent, handmade touches, music and fun. Our invitations were custom made out of Vinyl Records and the hand-made items from Joanne at Vintage Twee (UK based) fitted in to our theme perfectly. Our flowers were made out of old vintage music paper and scrunched to form roses,
We tried to bring the Australian and English cultures together (Enrique classifies himself as Australian…he’s been here since he was 4) with bomboniere and entertainment. We used Vintage Twee’s hand made lottery ticket holders with an English penny on the front and inside we inserted Australian lottery tickets (scratch cards). To my knowledge no one won the millions!!
We then had a unique black London cab that had been converted into a photo booth. Our guests dressed up with the props provided and had their photos taken. They were then provided the stills like a real photo booth. Lots of fun!
As the grand finale we had an old English double decker bus collect our guests at the end of the night and take them back to the hotel where we were all staying. You can take the girl out of England but not the English out of the girl!
Ceremony Venue…
Nielsen Park, Vaucluse. We chose the venue as it is quite possibly the most stunning place on earth. It had it all – the white sandy beach, the green leafy national park and the Sydney CBD skyline.
Reception Venue…
Nielsen Park Kiosk. The reception venue spilt out on to the beach so it was literally a stones throw from the ceremony site.
Flowers…
Old vintage music sheet paper scrunched into roses to form the bouquets
Decorations…
We decorated the venue with hand-picked flowers inserted into jam jars of different sizes that were wrapped in various types of vintage lace (my mum and I spent hours gluing the lace to the jars!) The venue was lit with candles (all various sizes) and tea lights in lanterns. The outdoor area was decorated with outdoor fairy lights and candles.
Wedding Favours…
Hand made lottery ticket holders with an English penny on the front and inside we inserted Australian lottery tickets (scratch cards).
Wedding Night…
We stayed at the honeymoon suite at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel.
Honeymoon…
We went to Seminyak in Bali for our honeymoon and stayed at Villalet. Our honeymoon was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and the customer service was second to none. We had our own maid, our own chef who came in to our villa to make our breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. We also had our own chauffeur driver for the week who would take us to tourist destinations. We visited temples, spas, beaches and did plenty of shopping. Seminyak is a unique place for boutique shopping, but the beaches were very dirty and quite disappointing. The restaurants however were phenomenal and there were plenty to choose from. Our particular favourites included Potato Head Beach Club, Ku De Ta, Sardine and Made’s Warung for lunch.
We also have a one year old daughter so the friendliness of all the balinese people that we came across was outstanding. They are very children friendly.
