They say the concrete jungle is where dreams are made of, and for Priya and Nishant, that was absolutely true on their wedding day! Their extravagant New York wedding incorporated luxurious elegance while still including intimate and sentimental touches for an utterly vibrant celebration of love.
Proposal In Paris…
Priya and Nishant first met in a trendy New York restaurant, Vandal, located in the heart of Soho. They fell in love quickly, and it wasn’t too long before Nishant got down on one knee while the couple were enjoying a romantic getaway in Paris. To share their exciting engagement news with their loved ones, the pair FaceTimed their nearest and dearest from the City Of Love before posting about the proposal on social media.
Blank Canvas…
The couple immediately knew that they wanted their wedding to be a unique affair that incorporated intimacy and glamour. “I wanted all the colours!” shares Priya, “I was looking at chic venues that could essentially be an empty slate so that I could create upon it.” After looking all over Brooklyn and Queens for the perfect chic warehouse vibe, Priya and Nishant decided to pull out all the stops and hold their celebration at the famous Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea, Manhattan. This venue held sentimental value to the couple as it was only a few blocks away from where they first met!
Custom Made…
Priya and Nishant had an elaborate bridal party of 52 people with 18 groomsmen and 34 bridesmaids! “I had been a bridesmaid 28 times, so it was an easy selection,” says Priya. When it came to proposing to her bride tribe, Priya took her gal pals to a Prosecco and pineapple toast night at an uber Instagrammable restaurant in Manhattan called Pietro Nolita. “However, Nishant just texted his groomsmen, as boys do!” laughs Priya. Priya’s mother is a designer, so all of the bridesmaids dresses for the wedding were designed by Rekha Mehta Designs, her mother’s fashion label from Mumbai.
Best Dressed…
For the ceremony, Nishant wore a regal white and gold Sherwani jacket. He then opted for a classic white dinner jacket tuxedo for the reception so it was easier to dance! Priya looked dazzling in her bridal outfit, a jade and ivory Lengha. Priya also had a costume change for the reception, opting for a couture gold and champagne gown.
Rainbow Parade…
One of the most memorable moments from the big day was when the wedding party closed down the streets of New York for a parade-styled Baraat, a traditional Indian groom’s wedding procession. The breathtaking display featured a rainbow of colours and a sea of smiling faces.
Just Married…
The magical New York wedding was captured by photographer, Ben Lau, after the couple fell in love with his cinematic yet candid captures. “His talent was quite obvious immediately, and I am happy to announce that he become a friend by the end of our wedding process!” says Priya.
Concrete Jungle…
The newlyweds and their 500 guests continued their celebrations at the Metropolitan Pavilion for their wedding reception. “For the reception, we went with a concrete jungle theme,” shares Priya. The jungle chic theme was brought to life with 15-foot twinkling trees and a lush green colour scheme.
Dance With Me…
To celebrate their new lives as husband and wife, Priya and Nishant shared their first dance to “I Like Me Better” by Lauv. There was not a dry eye in the house during this moment as their friends and family looked on at the happy couple. “We then shared a dance to ‘Tuyo’, a song from Narcos, as it’s our favourite show,” shares Priya.
Time For A Minimoon…
After such a vibrant and colourful New York wedding, the newlyweds are now counting down the days until their New Zealand and Bora Bora honeymoon in May 2020. They did get some downtime after the celebrations during a romantic minimoon. “If you’re planning to have a delayed honeymoon, take a minimoon at the very least!” shares Priya, “You need to hit a hard reset on life after the wedding because post-wedding blues are real!”
