Johanna –
It all began 5 years ago when I met my husband Adam where I was working at the time. We locked eyes one day while passing each other in the hall way and since then we have been inseparable. Adam proposed in our favourite Chinese Restaurant on the 4th of March 2010 and we spent the next18 months planning our beautiful wedding.
The morning of the wedding started out to be a relaxing and cool one but by the time it was time to put on my dress, the temperature started to rise…
My dress was made by Maria Chiodo Bridal at Leichhardt, it was made from beaded lace and ivory Thai silk and when I saw my completed dress I was absolutely blown away, it was everything I had dreamt of and I just felt like a queen. To me it was perfect. I wanted something that was elegant & classic with a contemporary twist. Thank you Maria Chiodo.
My something old was lace that was sewn onto my dress given to me by my great Zia Teresina which was from my mum’s 1967 wedding dress, my something new was my dress, my something borrowed was a 1950’s brooch that belonged to my late Nonna Maria and my something blue was a tiny blue bow that was sewn into the inside of my lace garter.
Our nuptials took place at St Finbar’s Catholic Church in Glenbrook, at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Our priest Father John made us feel really comfortable & relaxed during the ceremony. He even greeted my dad and myself by speaking fluently in Italian to my dad. My teary dad walked me down the aisle to Pachebel’s Canon while my proud mum looked on.
Our photo shoot location was at Glenleigh Historic House in Mulgoa. It is a historic House set on acreage right in front of the Nepean River. It was so beautiful with the rolling hills, green grass and delicate roses surrounding us.
Our wedding reception was at Curzon Hall, Marsfield. I will always remember the first time we saw Curzon Hall, my mum convinced us to go and have a look at it and lucky she did because when we saw it we both fell in love with it. The ambiance of the property was breathtaking. We just had to have our wedding reception there.
Our theme was modern vintage. We had silver arm candelabras, with tea light candles and three vintage crystal vases (which were collected by myself, mum and sister in the months leading up to our wedding) with posies of apricot & white roses, sweet peas and cottage garden flowers set on top of a round reflective mirror. On our tables I had made table names of all the special places & things myself and Adam would like to visit or do together. An example of our names were “The Hunter Valley” Where Jo & Adam celebrated their 2 year Anniversary together or “Popcorn & the movies” Adam & Jo love going to the movies together and eating popcorn! The names were printed on pearl paper and were then placed in mirrored frames. I even made individual menu’s on matching paper for our guests.
On the day we felt like we wanted to include the ones we loved who are no longer with us so, I displayed a wedding photo of my parents with their parents and a photo of Adam’s parents with their parents representing our love for our grandparents who have passed and also a photo of our family friend Les Lane, who we love and miss dearly.
Our bomboniere were tiny lolly jars from Ikea filled with white cool mints with a Thank you photo of myself and Adam attached with an apricot ribbon.
We spent our first night at Sydney’s the Four Season’s Hotel and had a memorable and romantic honeymoon in Waikiki and Maui’s Kannapali’s Beach in Hawaii.
Our wedding day was perfect in our eyes, it was the vintage, modern yet traditional wedding that we had aspired for. It was the most romantic and breathtaking day of our lives and we will continue to treasure our memories till the end of time. We would like to Thank all of our family & friends who helped us in the preparation and all of the suppliers who made our day so spectacular.
