We chatted to Senior Event Stylists Katarina and Danijela about all things wedding styling.
MW: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
K & D: Katarina + Danijela, Senior Event Stylists at Decorations by Jelena
Things we love right now is the ability to showcase a couples style and personality on one of their most special days of their lives. It also helps that we are surround ed by fabulous clients who become friends over the planning process. Being able to experiment with colour and textures with the latest trends is super exciting.
MW: How did you get started as a stylist?
K & D: We got started in 2008 when mum “Jelena” decided to make some chair covers and sashes to help her friends decorate their parties and celebrations. After that we all got roped into helping (as you do!) and it really grew from there. Our little business has gone from the supply of hand made chair covers and sashes, full service supply of decorations and now we also offer full floral styling as well. So much has changed in 8 years.
MW: What colours and colour palette combinations do you love for next 12 months?
K & D: Right now we are crushing two very different looks. The first is what we call Spring Fling – magenta, plum and blush highlights on a neutral base and the second is “Cool Summer” – think silver grey and duck egg blue with white and metallic details.
MW: What are your favourite new styling trends for 2017?
K & D: Candles, candles, candles! – Whether they are in vases, mixed pillars or LED – they are the must have addition to any space
The Finer Details – Absolutely love finishing touches – the finishing off napkins with a sprig of fresh foliage, tied with ribbon and topped with a personal place card – is one trend we are not getting tired of anytime soon.
We’re seeing a resurgence of contemporary styling trends: – Thanks to our love affair with all things shiny. Crisp white tablescapes with metallic geometric touches adds a fresh take on “classic white weddings”.
MW: What are your favourite styling elements to work with right now and why?
K & D: Linen – Nothing says relaxed elegance quite like beautiful linen in an array of neutral colours it perfectly compliments almost any style.
Fine metallic details – In simple geometric shapes add interest and a contemporary feel from centrepieces to ceremony arches and stationary!
Foliage – We just love all things green garland right now. They can be loose and garden crazy or neat and modern. We love them on tables, at ceremonies and especially hanging from the ceilings!
MW: What are your top 3 tips for brides wanting to create unique wedding style?
K & D: Be true to yourself and your identity as a couple – Really let your love story shine. After all that’s what everyone is celebrating.
Find your inspiration – But don’t allow it to consume you. Be open to new ideas – you might just find the missing piece!
Don’t feel confined to your venue or locations particular style – By consulting with your stylists an decorators and discussing alternative options you might find you’re able to create the transformation you’ve dreamed off!
MW: If you were designing your own wedding, how would you style it?
K & D: Ha! How long is a piece of string? It really depends on how long we had to plan it. We are just like most brides and absolutely fall head over heels with most new trends.
Say our wedding was in 3 months time? It would be an elegant outdoor celebration. Think a dusk ceremony overlooking an amazing vista, our bronze crescent framing the couple, covered in foliage and blooms, with dinner under the stars on long communal tables, masses of candles, with delicate linen topped with a foliage and white flower monochrome garland. A dance floor draped with festoon lights and dancing until the shoes come off is just a start…
