Spring has well and truely sprung. Longer days and warmer weather means there are plenty of new and exciting places for a date with your significant other. Whether you’re after romance or adventure, the new season brings something for every couple. Sick of the same old dinner dates? We have compiled a list of the perfect places for a date night this spring.
Date Night Ideas….
Lights on Later at the MCA
As part of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Lights on Later event, each Wednesday night the gallery is open til 9pm with special workshops, talks and performances. No mid-week date night is complete without some live music and this free event offers exactly that. Located on the MCA’s Sculpture Terrace, grab a drink with your date and settle in for an evening of performance boasting one of the best view in Sydney. Our pick is the monthly Sounds on the Terrace event.
Ferris Wheel Dining
Romantic dinner for two doesn’t get much better than this. You’ll have the best seats in the house as you take in the breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour at sunset. Add a glass of wine and some delicious food and you’ve got the perfect spring date. Booking this experience also gets you discounts at local hotels, so really treat yourself and turn it into an overnight date.
Picnic in the Royal Botanic Gardens
What better way to celebrate the outdoors than with a picnic. Sydney has so many beautiful picnic locations, but one of our favourites is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Pick a sunny afternoon, grab your favourite foods and favourite person, and don’t forget a picnic blanket. Find a spot with an unforgettable view of Sydney Harbour and you’ve got yourself a picture perfect date. If you happen to be after a spot to propose, we definitely recommend this one. Check out more of our favourite places to pop the question here.
Moonlight Cinema
Opening right at the end of spring, Moonlight Cinema is an outdoorsy twist on a standard date night. Located at Belvedere Amphitheatre, Centennial Park, this outdoor cinema will play everything from the classics to new releases. The event is BYO everything – this means seating, food and drinks – although there are some food vendors on site. Bring a picnic blanket and some cushions, your favourite movie snacks and even a cheeky drink, and enjoy the big screen under the stars.
Roller Coaster Zipline
For couples who like their dates to be adventurous, then the newest edition to Western Sydney’s Treetop Adventure Park. The Crazy Rider Xpress is said to be the world’s fastest rollercoaster zip-line and sends punters down a half kilometre track complete with 360 degree loop the loops. Opening on November 5th, this outdoor adventure is only for the bravest of couples.
Glamping
For those who want to get back to nature without going bush, an overnight glamping date offers the best of both worlds. Cockatoo Island is our pick for Sydney’s top glamping spot. The campground features hot showers, 10 BBQ areas, fridges, microwaves and a boiling water system, all to give you a little bit of luxury. Tents and beds are already set up, so all you need to do is show up with your food and cutlery and start enjoying date night. Of course, for those who love traditional camping, there is also a campground on Cockatoo Island boasting the incredible harbour views.
Carriageworks Farmers Markets
Nothing says welcome to spring like fresh produce. Change up your Saturday lunch date by heading to Carriageworks Farmers Markets. For this low key date wander the aisles of fresh produce, picking up samples on the way of some of Australia’s best seasonal foods. The markets frequently feature live music, an added bonus for any date. Carriageworks Farmers Markets are open from 8am-1pm every Saturday.
