A Wedding For All…
Cristina Plevko, a carer and lifestyle co-ordinator at Bupa’s Barrabool aged care facility, wanted to share a slice of her wedding bliss with the residents and staff at the home. However, when plans changed unexpectedly and Cristina could no longer hold her ceremony at the aged care home, she came up with an idea like no other to make sure the residents didn’t miss out on any of the wedding magic they had been promised.
Memory Lane…
Cristina organised a dazzling wedding expo for the residents to give them an opportunity to relive some of the happiest days of their lives. “We had a big display of wedding dresses ranging from 1931 to my own that I used earlier this year,” shares Cristina. The home collaborated with its residents to collect wedding photos and wedding dresses so that everyone could relish in the romantic enchantment of their wedding days. The delicate mix of white and coloured, long and short, traditional and unconventional, veil to no veil made interesting spectating for those who came to peruse and relive more than just their own special day.
Love Through Generations…
To add to the excitement of the day, a runway was set up in the lounge room so people could don their wedding gowns again and relive the magic of walking down the aisle. The pool table was used to display wedding photo albums so all of the residents could take a trip down memory lane. “We have a resident who had her mother’s wedding dress on display beside her own wedding dress, her daughter’s wedding dress and her granddaughter’s wedding dress – it was surreal to see the generations come alive through their garments,” says Cristina.
Love Is Real…
The wedding expo was a huge success that delighted the residents and brought back all of the cherished memories from their own weddings. This heart warming event has just restored all our faith in true love!
