There are a large range of ideas and expectations that come attached to finding your dream wedding dress, but should you be listening to them? We have found the most common wedding dress myths that need to be busted!
When You Know, You Know…
It’s perfectly natural to hope that you’ll put on a wedding dress and just know it’s the one. Unfortunately, there is often more to the decision than that. Sometimes it’s not about knowing it’s ‘the one’, but ensuring that it ticks all the boxes. Other considerations may include the price, availability and whether it’s suitable for your wedding venue.
Misty Eyes…
If you’ve ever seen a wedding dress shopping experience on television or in a movie, then you’ve probably seen a bride try on a dress and tear up when she knows it’s ‘the one’. Whilst this does happen to some brides, it’s actually quite rare. You will definitely feel many wonderful emotions, but you don’t need to shed a tear to know that it’s the dress for you.
One Stop Shop…
You may be one of the lucky brides that finds their dress at the first store they visit but it’s unfortunately quite unlikely. You’ll most likely find yourself visiting a number of boutiques before you pick the dream dress. Chances are you will actually end up visiting a few of those stores a number of times!
Price Tag Dilemma…
This one is absolutely not true. Just because it’s a wedding dress, doesn’t mean it’s expensive or unaffordable. Whilst some wedding dresses hold a hefty price tag, many are very reasonable. In fact, there are so many gowns that are incredibly affordable and can even be available to purchase during a sale period.
Following Tradition…
Many brides are under the impression that a wedding dress has to follow tradition. Not only is this not the case, but it’s actually the opposite. Bridal designers are creating more and more gowns which allow a bride to showcase her personal taste. Whilst there is nothing wrong with a traditional style gown, you absolutely can break the mould and find your own style.
No Peeking…
Traditionally, the groom isn’t meant to see the bride in her gown before the wedding. Well not anymore! More brides are choosing to bring their partner into the decision making process and we love the idea. It’s your day, so you should absolutely stick with whatever makes you happy.
A Cinderella Fit…
When you walk into a store, you may assume that the dresses you want to try on will be available in your size. The truth is, this is quite unlikely. Sample sizes vary from store to store, but chances are the gowns won’t fit perfectly. These will be adjusted by the stylists so that you can see how the gown will look when it fits like a glove.
The Crowd Favourite…
Whilst it would be lovely if everyone loved your wedding dress as much as you do, it’s not a necessity. If someone tells you they don’t love your dress, it’s because it’s not their taste. Your opinion of the gown is the only one that matters. Chances are you will never be able to please everyone so don’t try to.
