Are These Wedding Traditions Hot Or Not?

Modern Wedding Posted: May 6, 2019

There are countless wedding traditions out there, each having their own meaning and reasoning. But how many of these are still relevant? We have gone through the most common wedding traditions to see if they are still hot or not!

Tossing The Bouquet…

This one is definitely sticking around and is still lots of fun! As tradition dictates, whoever catches the bouquet will be the next to walk down the aisle. Whilst this prediction is no longer taken too seriously, the activity that is still very popular today. This one is definitely hot!

Throwing Rice…

Throwing rice over the newlyweds symbolises good luck and wishing fertility on the couple. This is one tradition that is rarely used today, and has even become banned in some venues and areas. Not only is the rice difficult to clean up, but can cause injuries to the couple or those walking around on it. It can also be damaging to the surrounding wildlife. It’s a not hot from us!

Something Old, New, Borrowed And Blue…

This is one of the most known wedding traditions, but it is becoming more and more forgotten. This tradition was designed to create good fortune for the bride so some brides still choose to add it into their day. For most couples, it is not a necessity and is often forgotten. This one is not as hot as it used to be.

White Wedding Dress …

Traditionally, brides wore a pure white gown when getting married, but this is absolutely not the case anymore! Not only do majority of gowns come in shades of cream and ivory, but colours such as blush, light blue and champagne are becoming increasingly more popular. Choosing whatever colour gown you like is definitely hot!

Wearing A Veil…

In the past, it was quite uncommon for a bride to walk down the aisle without a veil. Today, many brides opt to break the tradition with no veil at all, a veil for just the ceremony or a fabulous hair accessory alternative! Having to wear a veil, not hot.

Bridal Parties…

Did you know why bridal parties exist? It’s certainly an interesting answer! Bridesmaids and groomsmen stood by the couple, each dressed in a similar way, so that they could trick any evil spirits who may try to harm the couple. Today, bridal parties are whatever you want them to be! Whether everyone dresses differently, you have a groomswoman or bridesman or choose to have no bridal party at all, all options are hot!

Two Wedding Colours…

Traditionally, a wedding was designed to have only two colours in the overall colour scheme. This is definitely not the case anymore, with couples picking as many colours as they like. Having to limit yourself to only two colours is not hot!

No Seeing The Bride Before The Wedding…

While many couples choose to stick to this, it is definitely not necessary. More and more couples are choosing to have first look photoshoots or even get ready for the day together. These moments make for some gorgeous photos as well. Breaking this tradition is definitely hot!

First Dance…

We still adore this tradition. The first dance for a husband and wife is a beautiful and meaningful moment that starts a marriage in a truly magical way. The father-daughter and mother-daughter dances are also gorgeous and important traditions that are hanging around! Definitely hot!

Exchanging Vows…

Traditional vows have definitely declined in popularity in recent years with couples choosing to create something more personal and meaningful. These are words that should come from the heart and can be whatever you like! Creating your own vows = hot.

Inviting Everyone…

Weddings used to be a lot larger, with everyone from third cousins to old family friends being invited. Today, it is acceptable to cut the list down to who you choose to have there. If you are still unsure, we have the guide to help you figure out who you can axe from the invite list. Having to invite everyone is not hot.

Giving You Away…

The act of being walked down the aisle by your father and being ‘given away’ is traditional but has definitely been altered to fit modern society. For many brides, walking down the aisle is now done alone, with both parents or with your partner. Picking whoever you like is on the hot list!
