It’s often a topic of debate within a bridal party and unfortunately, it can cause some tension. Whether you are a bridesmaids or a bride, understanding the financial responsibilities of a wedding is sometimes unclear. If you are unsure of what bridesmaids should and shouldn’t pay for, we have the breakdown for you.
The Dress…
This is one of the biggest parts of being a bridesmaids and can often spark quite a debate. So, who pays for the bridesmaids dress? Ultimately, it is the bridesmaids responsibility to cover the cost of the dress they will be wearing on the big day. Whether or not you are choosing the design or are part of the decision making process, it is something that you are doing for the bride. This is also a dress which you will be able to keep after the wedding day.
Accessories…
If the bride is asking that you purchase a select style for your accessories and shoes, they may choose to assist with the costs. Again, these are elements which you will be keeping after the wedding and are able to wear again. This is another example where bridesmaids should cover the costs.
Hens Party…
As the bride tribe gathers to celebrate at the hens party, there is often a large amount of debate about who should cover what cost. Whether it is a weekend trip again, or a night out, bridesmaids are expected to contribute for this celebration. Costs should be explained well in advance and are the responsibility of both the bridesmaids and other guests who are attending. In many cases, a bride will cover more of the cost to ensure that the financial obligation for guests isn’t too straining.
Accommodation…
If the celebration itself is a destination wedding or involves travelling, then accommodation is usually the responsibility of the guests. However, as the bride and groom often stay with the bridal party, this cost is generally expected to be covered by the couple. Renting out a house or group accommodation is often to easiest option to ensure that the bridal party and couple can stay together.
Hair And Make Up…
The glam process on the wedding day falls under the responsibility of the bride. This also covers any trials or products that are necessary. Any form of celebrations, drinks or activities that also take place during this time should also be covered by the bride.
Transportation…
As the bridesmaids and bride gather to head to the ceremony, they often travel together. Whether you are travelling in a limousine or a beautifully stylish car, each form of transportation should be covered by the bride.
Bridal Shower…
The cost of the bridal shower depends of who is hosting it. If the occasion is being hosted by the maid of honour or bridesmaids, then the cost and organisation will be covered by them. More often than not, the bride or bride’s family will host the shower, therefore covering the cost themselves.
Wedding Dress…
There have been many cases of debate where a bride has asked for financial assistance for their wedding dress. This may be asked as a sign of friendship or because the gown pushes the bridal budget. Choosing to donate to the gowns cost is a personal decision, but there is no obligation to do so.
Gift…
Whilst bridesmaids do have more expenses for a wedding than other guests do, it is still proper etiquette to present the couple with a gift. Being a bridesmaid is an incredible honour and allows you to be a memorable and important part of the day. Be sure to continue to show your love and appreciation for the couple with a gift that they can enjoy.
